The Gloster Javelin Project – Supporting British Engineering Heritage
At Skegness Springs, we occasionally have the opportunity to assist with heritage engineering projects alongside our day-to-day work supplying custom-made springs and precision spring solutions across the UK. One such project is the ongoing reconstruction of the Gloster Javelin, a 1950s RAF interceptor aircraft.
The Gloster Javelin Reconstruction Team, a small group of volunteer engineers, is rebuilding the aircraft’s forward fuselage using a mixture of original parts and newly manufactured components. Their aim is to produce an authentic and well-presented example of the aircraft for future generations to study.

Several assemblies within the cockpit were originally designed to operate using spring-assisted mechanisms. We have recently supplied the springs for the canopy forward/backward control system, helping the team remain faithful to the aircraft’s original engineering design. This type of work often requires careful specification and low-volume spring manufacturing—areas where our technical experience is useful.
The project will continue over the coming months and years, and we are pleased to offer support where we can. Heritage engineering relies heavily on collaboration, practical expertise, and reliable component supply, and we are glad to contribute when our skills are relevant.
